Morihei Hishiboshi Hi 12000 is an extra-fine grit finishing stone, intended for the final polishing of the cutting edge of kitchen knives. Used as one of the last elements in the sharpening progression (after #6000 or #8000), it allows you to achieve maximum sharpness, a distinct shine, and a high-contrast finish characteristic of the classic kasumi effect.
Like other stones in the Hishiboshi Hi series, the 12000 model contains a natural material admixture, which significantly affects the quality of contact with the blade. The stone creates a fine-grained slurry during use, which allows for precise control of every movement and helps to achieve a sophisticated finish, especially on laminated blades (carbon steel + soft iron).
A splash & go stone—ready to work after a single moistening with water. It does not require soaking, which increases convenience. To improve performance, it is recommended to rub the surface with a flattening plate or a Nagura stone. The slurry should not be removed during sharpening—it contains active abrasive particles that are crucial in the polishing process.
Morihei Hi 12000 provides a high level of precision and controlled abrasion, without the risk of excessive material removal. This stone is suitable for users who expect not only functional sharpness but also a high-quality aesthetic finish. Compared to the Shapton and Naniwa series, it is distinguished by its greater thickness (25 mm) and extended lifespan, which translates to greater stability and longer service life.
