Morihei Hishiboshi Karasu 9000 is an ultra-fine grit finishing stone, developed with Morihei’s proprietary formula in Tokyo. This product has achieved cult status among users, especially for sharpening straight razors and knives where not only pure sharpness but also full control over the finishing surface is essential. Initially available only on the Japanese market, it has since earned a reputation as one of the best-performing stones for final finishing.
Karasu 9000 is a splash & go stone—ready to work without soaking. It is made from a blend of synthetic and natural materials, which translates into exceptional functional properties: fast cutting, the production of a fine slurry, and a very good feel when guiding the blade. Despite its high grit, the stone is not overly soft, which improves work stability and control over the material.
During sharpening, the working surface generates a slurry that aids the polishing process, and the final finish is a subtle kasumi effect with high contrast—especially well visible on san-mai blades. The edge after sharpening is visibly smoothed, but retains a noticeable microstructure, which makes the cut precise and not overly “slippery.”
Compared to Shapton, Naniwa, or even other Morihei Hi models, the Karasu 9000 stands out with both its material formula and a distinctly more “natural” character of work—making it a suitable tool for users with advanced requirements.
