The Japanese Naniwa Super Stone S1-410 has a grit of 1000. It uses a special binder – synthetic resin, which the Naniwa company produces on its own. This is a basic stone that will be useful in every set of sharpening tools. The advantage of Naniwa stones is their hardness and durability – they wear out slowly. They also have a high concentration of abrasive particles, which makes sharpening an efficient and pleasant activity – even in the case of the hardest steels, such as ZDP-189 or R-2. A characteristic feature of the Super Stone series of stones is also that you just need to wet them with a little water to start sharpening (the so-called “splash & go”). After each sharpening, you must remember to thoroughly dry the Naniwa Super Stone and let it dry completely at room temperature. You can’t put it on a heater! After drying, it should be stored in a dry and dark place.
