The most popular Japanese pocket knife, Higonokami, is as famous in the Land of the Rising Sun as the world-renowned Swiss Army knife. It was designed in 1896, and its special feature is a mechanism called “chikiri”. It consists of a small, forged lever used to open it. Higonokami is an excellent and handy tool for many daily tasks, such as sharpening pencils, opening various packages, and also cutting fruits. The lightweight and durable Higonokami pocket knife of a small size has a simple construction and is a versatile tool for many situations. The SILVER version is made of very good high-carbon steel called SK-5, which is hardened to approx. 60 HRC. Over time, the blade becomes covered with a patina, which makes the pocket knife unique. This knife does not have a locking system, but it uses the iconic “chikiri” lever, using the friction effect, which safely holds the blade in place. To remove it from the handle, you need to press the lever and keep your thumb on it while using the pocket knife to keep it open. When you are finished, the Higonokami should be thoroughly rinsed and dried.
