Shapton Naoru Lapping System with Cast Iron Lapping Plate

The Shapton Naoru Lapping System with a cast iron lapping plate was created to clean and flatten your sharpening stones. It was designed with Shapton stones in mind but can also be successfully used on other sharpening stones. The set consists of a cast iron lapping plate and two bottles of lapping powder (silicon carbide grains): coarse and medium. Even if you use the best sharpening stones in the world, you won’t be able to fully utilize them if they are not completely flat. That’s why flattening them is so important. Leave this task to the Shapton Naoru system. The lapping stone is heavy, hard, and has an appropriate size (25 x 10 cm). It is equipped with grooves with a crystalline structure that increase the synergy between the lapping stone and the silicon carbide grains, helping to remove sharpening slurry and ensuring the stone can work as intended. The Shapton Naoru lapping system includes two bottles of silicon carbide grains. One contains coarser grains, intended for flattening Shapton stones with a grit between 120 and 320. The second bottle contains medium grains, intended for flattening Shapton sharpening stones with a grit from 1000 to 4000. Do you want to flatten stones with a grit of 5000 and higher? Use the bottle with fine grains, which is sold separately.

How to use the Shapton Naoru Lapping System:

1. Place the lapping stone on a stable surface.
2. Pour water over the stone so that the water reaches the corners.
3. Apply silicon carbide grains to the stone in 3 / 4 places and spread them evenly.
4. Now you can start flattening your sharpening stone.

Before you begin, use a pencil to draw a grid on your sharpening stone. This will help you determine how long you need to flatten the stone so you don’t remove too much material. Place your stone on the lapping stone and move it from corner to corner. This diagonal motion will use the full surface area of the stone, ensuring even flattening of your sharpening stone. In addition, you will ensure that dirt is removed immediately. This will make your stone like new! During use, add water and additional grains if necessary. When you are done flattening, clean both the lapping stone and the sharpening stone thoroughly to avoid scratching.
