Paulownia wood comes from Central Asia and is the lightest known wood apart from balsa. Paulownia is characterized by the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all wood species in the world. A board made of this wood is very light, so it is recommended to use it on a cloth to prevent it from sliding during cutting. Rocking cutting is not recommended on it, as this may negatively affect the sharpness of the knife. Paulownia wood boards are ideal for working with Japanese knives.
