The Higonokami, famous throughout Japan, is a pocket knife that enjoys as much acclaim as the Swiss Army knife is valued in Switzerland and around the world. Created in 1896, the Higonokami stands out with its ‘chikiri’ mechanism, a small, forged lever used to open it. It is excellent for daily tasks like sharpening pencils and opening various packages, and even for slicing fruit and many other activities. The simple design of the Higonokami pocket knife, along with its lightness and small size, means you can take it anywhere. It has a universal application and is worth having on hand every day. In the SILVER version, the core of the blade is made from carbon steel called SK-5, surrounded by additional soft iron claddings. The hardening process brings the blades’ hardness to a level reaching 60 HRC. Over time, a patina appears on them, which contributes to the unique look of the Higonokami. The blade is held securely in place by friction (this pocket knife has no locking system). To remove it from the handle, simply press the ‘chikiri.’ As long as the lever is held with the thumb, the blade will remain out, and the knife can be used. After use, the blade requires a thorough rinse and drying.
