Shapton Kuromaku Professional is a coarse-grained stone with a grit of #320, which is useful for repairing damaged knives, as well as broken tips or any chips. It removes steel quickly. The water stones that are part of the Shapton Kuromaku Professional series are considered one of the hardest and thus best stones for sharpening that can currently be found on the market. Compared to almost every competitive brand, they have the advantage that they wear out the least, and a great convenience is the fact that they do not require such frequent leveling. Shapton Kuromaku Professional stones can be used with hard steels such as ZDP-189 or R2. The so-called “Splash and Go” – Kuromaku sharpening stones do not require soaking, as they do not absorb water (unlike most competitive stones). Before the first use of a new stone, it is enough to soak it for 5 minutes, and then – each subsequent time – just moisten it to make it immediately ready to work. A feature that users of Kuromaku Professional stones appreciate is also the speed of collecting metal, and thus sharpening. These ceramic stones are created thanks to a special production method that gives them a high degree of hardness. The manufacturer took care of selected ceramic and abrasive materials, which affects the functional values of the presented Kuromaku Professional sharpening stones. Each of them is packed in a functional box that can be a stand for the stone, useful during sharpening. Note – these stones should not be soaked for longer than a few hours.
